About the region

An island that shaped coffee

In the 1920s a natural cross between arabica and robusta was found on Timor. The Timor Hybrid resists leaf rust and became the parent of many modern varieties grown worldwide.

Coffee is a lifeline for highland families in Ermera, Aileu and Maubisse. Specialty buyers are still few, so well-processed Timorese lots are uncommon in the US.
